Education Programs for Community-based Rehabilitation(CBR) Workers
To promote Community-based rehabilitation(CBR), the National Rehabilitation Center(NRC) has
developed and operated education and training programs since 1993.
The number of locally trained CBR workers
is 8,459, including doctors, nurses, therapists, social workers, health care providers, and other personnel by
2017.
To operate the curriculum, the NRC has organized the training courses through the working-level delegates training committee and external advisory committee, and reflected expert’s opinions and result of survey.
Curriculums were carried out by area of expertise until 2007, but were divided into beginner
courses
(10days), intermediate courses (5days), and advanced courses (3days) since 2008.
From 2013, education courses were further subdivided into specialized rehabilitation processes.
In 2015, training programs are classified into basic courses for business practice, advanced courses for
business practice, and advanced courses for professional rehabilitation.
The basic courses are recommended for CBR workers to learn basic elements, and the advanced courses are
recommended for the process of intensive work, such as cognitive rehabilitation, psychological rehabilitation,
counseling, and case management.
The effects and results of Education programs are assessed in two ways : the first is the self-adequacy survey by the assessment paper, the second was an email survey in the third month after the education in which the students were asked to record their choice of courses, satisfaction, practical applicability and requirements.
Such assessment is shared by sending an official notice to students and posting on NRC’s web-sites(http://www.nrc.go.kr).
In the future, it is most important for the people with disabilities and their families to have the trained CBR workers to achieve the goals of rehabilitation.
